The Indian Navy’s official Twitter account on Thursday shared a video which marks a ‘historic milestone’ for the defense forces, which saw maiden night landing of MiG-29K on INS Vikrant. The Indian Navy marled this achievement as yet another step to Prime Minister Narendra Modi propagated ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

The Indian Navy announced that the challenging night landing trial on India’s first indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant demonstrates the resolve, skill and professionalism of the Vikrant crew and the Naval pilots.

The INS Vikrant is the first to be built in India and was constructed by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kerala. The namesake Vikrant is a tribute to India’s first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant (1961).
India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on Saturday docked for the first time at the newly built berthing facility of Karwar Naval base. This landmark development under Project Sea Bird aims to enhance the ship-berthing capacity of the Karwar Base.
In September last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned India’s first indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant that made the country part of an elite group of nations capable of manufacturing aircraft carriers above 40,000 tonnes category.
Recently, during the Quad meet, India planned to speed up acquisition of armed drones from the US even as the Indian Navy is working towards extending the lease of two General Atomics manufactured Sea Guardian surveillance drones which expires in January 2024, according to Hindustan Times.
The two Sea Guardian drones are based at Rajali Naval Base in Tamil Nadu.
The Indian Navy on Monday informed that they had successfully carried out an engagement of a sea-skimming supersonic target using its latest indigenous guided missile destroyer INS Mormugao.
This maiden endeavour showcases the Navy’s future-proof combat readiness and commitment towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, said India’s maritime force.
